The Best of the Best

This version of Solitaire ’til Dawn is a reincarnation of a well-loved game program on pre-Intel Macs. The application has been polished over many years of user feedback, and the quality shows.

The interface is simple, and there are many great games to play (Forty Thieves is my favorite.) There is a detailed list of rules with each game, which includes hints on strategy and optimal game play. You can customize the interface so that you get all the bells and whistles, or just play a fast and simple game.

The app includes many useful features and shortcuts that I haven’t seen on other versions of Mac solitaire. For example, this app allows you to move entire stacks of cards from one foundation to another (when it’s legal), instead of having to move one card after another in tedious fashion. I particularly like the ‘snapshot’ feature, that allows you to bookmark your place in the game for later return. If you want to go back to that point in the game and try a different strategy, it’s just a simple click away.

My only reservation might be the price, but frankly it’s worth it. You won’t find a better solitaire game.
