Solitaire Till Dawn App Reviews

It’s BACK, BACK, BACK!!!!!

It’s the BEST, BEST, BEST solitaire suite EVER!!! I even tried another suite while this was being rewritten… it wasn’t bad, but it certainly wasn’t STD, by a long shot. You like solitaire? STD lives up to it’s name - you will be up till dawn and enjoying every minute.

Still the Champ

STD has been the best solitaire suite out there for years, and I’m delighted to see that it’s finally available for Mavericks and Yosemite, sleeker and more beautiful than ever. In rewriting it for the Intel-based Macs, Rick Holzgrafe took the opportunity to make an excellent product even better. STD still has a mind-boggling array of games, from the familiar to the unknown, from the most mindless (Aces High) to the most challenging (Calculation and Spider, of the ones that I know). The user interface, always smooth as cream, is even more streamlined. I think. Truth to tell, I don’t remember many details of the old versions, but this one seems at once familiar and different in the best possible way—a hallmark of thoughtful design. And some favorite features are still there: snapshots that let you return easily to previous positions, highlighting of playable cards (for absent-minded geezers like me), easy switching between games, and engaging explanations of the rules for all 100 games. Solitaire Tilll Dawn. It may be the most appropriate name in computer games. I guarantee you’ll be hooked.

Love this Solitaire game

Very Very good solitaire games and only $9.99.

The Best—Hands Down!

Purchased my first Solitare till Dawn in 2004, and had serious withdrawal symptoms when it was no longer available. In the years this was “lost”, not available with the later OS updates, I learned the hard way just how much I had taken it for granted the options available, the attention to detail. Thank you, thank you! for bringing it back!! It is perfectly named: there are so many games in this set, you can play hours on end, one delighted challenge after another. Well worth the wait!

My favorite Solitaire game ever

I’ve been playing Solitaire Till Dawn for years. In fact I absolutely refused to upgrade my laptop until this new version became available. I am so delighted to have it again. It is head and shoulders above any other solitaire game out there. Thanks, Rick! Great job.

A Classic Has Returned

So many evenings spent with this game on my OS9 iMac. I was part of the Beta program for the new version for so long so of course I had to buy it now that it’s out. The best Solitaire game on the Mac hands down.

Great solitaire games!

Ive been playing Solitaire Till Dawn for quite a few years. When it wouldnt work on my new computer, I kept the old one just so I could continue to get my daily "fix" of Solitaire Till Dawn. I became a beta tester early on and really appreciate how much time and effort went into making this new version the best ever. If you are looking for a wide variety of well-written solitaire games, this is it!

I can finally update my Mac!

I’ve been playing this game since it’s original inception. I played it so much that I felt compelled to pay for it twice, and now I’m delighted to pay for it a third time. The difference between this game and all others - for me - is the ability to choose to highlight playable cards so I can just get into a zen space and just click. Combined with unlimited undo and rapid back up and forward, it’s perfect for me. I like to mess about with what-ifs. It was so integral to my relaxation that I simply refused to update my Mac until the beta version appeared. My family thought I was nuts, but I enjoy this game more than any gee-whiz features Apple had to offer.

If you want to be productive, do not buy this app

I’ve played this game since its earliest inception. Now that it’s on OS X, I can feel my productivity sliding downhill. If you like solitaire, look no farther, just click that buy button up there. You won’t regret it. Thank you Rick Holzgrafe for your excellent resurrection.

The Best…forget the rest.

By far the best and most comprehensive solitaire package for the Mac or PC. I am delighted to finally have this for OS X.

So good, you’ll be glad you’re alone!

I’ve been playing Solitaire Till Dawn for more years than I care to admit. Well, that’s true until the dark day it stopped working with the latest version of Mac OS many years ago. Since then I’ve struggled to find a halfway decent replacement. Once a year I’d find myself searching for workable alternatives, but each time I’d come up empty-handed. Nothing offered the simplicity, the grace, the variety, the flexibility, or the functionality of Solitaire Till Dawn. Ah, but you brave reader of reviews are in luck. You do not need to search anymore. Your quest is over, although your night is just beginning. You will be playing this game well past dawn. Indeed, I suspect like the rest of us, you’ll be playing for years to come.

Great program

Like several others that have written a review, I am a long time user from OS 8 days and missed it when the Mac OS 10.7 failed to suppot Rosetta and it stopped working. I found Ricks blog several years ago and have follow it and jumped on the beta test band wagon when it was made available. The program is now better then ever and I play it most every day. Thanks to all the beta testers that helped Rick make it such a fantastic program and a great big Thanks to Rick for all the long hours he spent writing and debugging it so I can once again play it!

The best is back

I started playing Solitaire Till Dawn in the mid 90s. There is no other version of solitaire that compares, and Ive tried more than a few. The elegant, clean design and thoughtful features make this an outstanding piece of software. I participated in the beta testing and am thrilled to have purchased it once again. Look no further!

The best solitaire game bar none

Long ago, when I was a student, I had a paperback book titled something like "The Complete Book Solitaire Games"; it had over 200 different solitaire and solitaire-like card games. Being a poor student, and decks of cards being cheap, I soon had a number of favorites with which to kill time when papers refused to write themselves. Solitaire Till Dawn has ALL of them! Its like the programmer took that old book and brought it to computer life, and I love it! The new iteration is excellent; the graphics are smooth and the cards are easy to read. If you like solitaire games, give this app a shot--once you dive into the rabbit hole, you wont want to come out! (My two favorite games are 40 Thieves and Spider; they are both quite challenging.)

It’s back! And worth every minute of the wait

What a happy day! I can finally reinstall Solitaire Till Dawn, the best and most complete solitaire collection in the history of Mac. I avoided upgrading OS X after Rosetta ceased to be part of the inner workings ONLY because I would lose Solitaire Till Dawn, and I just couldn’t face that! Then my hard drive crashed over a year ago, and an update had to happen with the new drive. Alas. I’m grateful to Mr. Holzgrafe for all the work he did to restore this beloved piece of software for all of us, building this program up again from scratch. Many of us have been checking his blog weekly for months and years, hoping that S till D would again be available. THANK YOU, RICK!

Still the best solitaire on any platform, ever

Ive been playing Solitaire Till Dawn almost since it first became available more than twenty years ago, and Im indescribably happy to have it back. This is a card solitaire game without equal. The incredible depth and breadth of the game collection, the detailed info and well-explained rules for each game, the beautiful interface design, and the nostalgically retro graphics recreated from the previous edition all come together to make this the best traditional-card solitaire simulation on any computer platform, ever. Despite what some developers seem to think, the details really do matter—they make all the difference between a game that I will shell out $10 for without question, and one that Im reluctant to pay even $1 to remove ads from. Is it perfect? Of course not—no game is or can be. But the developer has always been highly responsive to bug reports and feature requests, and the game will only continue to improve. Literal perfection is unattainable, but this game may be as close to perfection as an app can be. And Im clearly not the only person who thinks so—as I write this, I see the game already has 61 five-star ratings, and just a single rating below that (someone gave it one star, but either they didnt write a review or Apple didnt post it, so Im not inclined to give it much weight). You wont find many, if any, other apps in the App Store with that kind of near-unanimous acclaim. If you like to play card solitaire, whether its several different complicated games, or just basic Klondike or Free Cell, this is the app you want. It is absolutely worth every penny.

Solitare Till Dawn

I do not the design or intention of these games. I do not like the looks of it. The games I played were the most restrictive way of playing them, such as Kings to Aces was not allowed. That is, there is no relaxed version of the games. I was convinced to buy this game from the outstanding reviews, however, I am keenly disappointed. I would like to get my money back if I could. I found the games inferior in design for both playing and appearance to Pysol for Windows. The set it up the way you want it was more abundant in Pysol.

The Best of the Best

This version of Solitaire ’til Dawn is a reincarnation of a well-loved game program on pre-Intel Macs. The application has been polished over many years of user feedback, and the quality shows. The interface is simple, and there are many great games to play (Forty Thieves is my favorite.) There is a detailed list of rules with each game, which includes hints on strategy and optimal game play. You can customize the interface so that you get all the bells and whistles, or just play a fast and simple game. The app includes many useful features and shortcuts that I haven’t seen on other versions of Mac solitaire. For example, this app allows you to move entire stacks of cards from one foundation to another (when it’s legal), instead of having to move one card after another in tedious fashion. I particularly like the ‘snapshot’ feature, that allows you to bookmark your place in the game for later return. If you want to go back to that point in the game and try a different strategy, it’s just a simple click away. My only reservation might be the price, but frankly it’s worth it. You won’t find a better solitaire game.

At last! It’s back!

My old favorite finally returns. Still the very best version and oh how I have missed it!

Crashes every third or fourth game

I used to love Solitaire Till Dawn. This version is crashing every third or fourth game and I no longer love it. How do I get a refund?
